Foods to Avoid When Stressed?
A recent US study suggests high-fat diets can disrupt gut microbiota and affect the brain, potentially causing anxiety. While animal fats are harmful, healthy fats from fish, olive oil, and nuts can improve mood and brain health.

Foods to Avoid When Stressed?

According to a recent US study,
animal experiments revealed that a high-fat diet not only destroys the gut microbial community but can also affect the brain, including inducing anxiety, along the complex pathways connecting the gut and the brain.
Researchers divided mice into two groups:
one group received a diet with approximately 11% fat content,
while the other received a high-fat diet with 45% fat content, including animal products rich in saturated fat. They observed changes over a certain period.

The results showed that the group consuming the high-fat diet not only gained weight but also exhibited a significant decrease in the diversity of gut bacteria. They reported a reduction in beneficial bacteria and an increase in harmful bacteria.
Furthermore, there were differences in the expression of some genes involved in serotonin production and signal transduction, a neurotransmitter.
While serotonin is known as a mood-boosting hormone,
the study explained that activating a specific subset of serotonin neurons can trigger anxiety-like responses.

However, it is not always the case that a high-fat content
will have a negative impact.
Typically, harmful fats are animal-based saturated fatty acids. Healthy fats abundant in fish, olive oil, nuts, and seeds, on the other hand, offer numerous health benefits, such as anti-inflammatory effects, and can contribute to brain health and mood improvement.
