When inserting breast implants, after an incision of about 3.5cm,
a larger implant pocket needs to be created so that the implant can spread out comfortably.
At this point, the larger the implant size, the more extensive the incision will need to be.
During the first breast augmentation,
if an excessively large breast implant is used for surgery
compared to one's physical condition,
the risk of complications can increase, so it is not recommended.
The larger the breast implant size, the higher the risk and probability of complications associated with the implant's size. Therefore, choosing a balanced size that suits you is important!
What are the main reasons why breast implants should not be excessively large?
- When an excessively large implant is inserted compared to the rib cage size, a larger incision is made,
which can put strain on the skin or tissues, increasing the risk of nerve damage.
- If an oversized implant is placed in a small pocket, implant folding or creasing may be palpable, and the risk of implant rupture can increase.
In addition, there can be an unnatural shape and movement, often described as ‘inverted bowls’.
If the skin is thin, a rippling phenomenon where the implant is visible may occur, and if the breasts become excessively heavy, pain or stiffness (musculoskeletal pain) may occur in the neck, shoulders, back, and waist.
