Yaksu Station Dental Clinic: Bright Smile with Anterior Prosthetic Treatment (Esthetic Prosthetic Treatment)

A patient visited our Yaksu Station dental clinic after their old anterior bridge fell off. We replaced it with an esthetic prosthetic, focusing on length, color, and shape for a brighter, more confident smile.

Hello~!!

I’m Dr. Kim Tae-young, director of Bareunyoung Dental Clinic at Yaksu Station.

Starting in June, an endemic has been declared, signifying a complete lifting of COVID-19 restrictions.

Masks are no longer mandatory in hospitals.

It's great that patients no longer have the inconvenience of having to wear masks^^

Lately, we've been seeing an increasing number of patients for whitening and esthetic prosthetic cases.

We hear reasons such as long-delayed trips, gatherings, and family events.

My front crown fell off.

A patient visited us because their old anterior prosthetic crown fell off while eating.

As you can see, they had an anterior bridge prosthetic made of PFM, but the porcelain part had come off, exposing the metal substructure.

Since they had a family event coming up soon, we decided to remove it, check the condition of the existing teeth, and quickly make at least a temporary crown.

They had been using a bridge prosthetic for a long time, using two small anterior teeth as abutments.

Because the condition inside such an old prosthetic cannot be known, we remove it and evaluate the condition.

Since these teeth have short roots, I was concerned about mobility when removing the prosthetic, but fortunately, they were not loose, and the secondary decay was not severe.

We simply removed it, reinforced the material,

trimmed the deficient areas a bit more, and fitted a temporary crown.

When treating anterior teeth, not only function but also

esthetics are very important, so

we discuss the shape, color, and length with the patient to determine the fabrication direction.

We first allow an adaptation period with the temporary crown.

Since the patient had to attend a family event, we made and attached a beautiful temporary crown.

The patient's teeth were naturally short, so the previous prosthetic was made to match that length, but the patient wished for slightly longer teeth.

Since each patient's desires are different,

we reflect these in the temporary crown, allow them to wear it, and incorporate any necessary adjustments.

This is the final prosthetic version, with a length and color that the patient found satisfactory after final adjustments.

You can clearly see that the teeth are longer than their original length.

Although adjusting the occlusion was challenging due to the increased tooth length, we were able to complete the treatment beautifully.

I'm not sure if it's just me, but I can see the dental technician's effort to even express the anatomical structure of the teeth in this prosthetic^^

As I mentioned earlier,

esthetic prosthetics involve very clear subjective criteria, so

we identify what the patient values most while they use the temporary crown,

and if necessary, we make adjustments to the final prosthetic to achieve esthetically and functionally

satisfactory results, which involves a lot of communication^^

Frequently Asked Questions

What should I do if my anterior prosthetic falls off?

If an anterior prosthetic falls off, you should visit a dental clinic to check the condition of the existing tooth, examine for secondary decay, and then plan for new prosthetic treatment. A temporary crown can be made quickly to reduce discomfort.

How are the shape and length of anterior teeth determined during esthetic prosthetic treatment?

During esthetic prosthetic treatment, the shape, color, and length of the anterior teeth are determined through thorough consultation with the patient. An initial adaptation period is provided with a temporary crown, and the patient's feedback is incorporated for adjustments.

Why are temporary crowns used during anterior esthetic prosthetic treatment?

Temporary crowns are used to allow the patient an adaptation period, both functionally and esthetically, before the final prosthetic is fabricated. During this period, the patient's requirements can be identified and incorporated into the final prosthetic to increase satisfaction.

Why should old anterior prosthetics be removed?

Old prosthetics should be removed to evaluate the condition of the underlying teeth, as their state cannot be known otherwise. This is to ensure safe and healthy treatment by checking the root condition and the presence of secondary decay.

What is the most important aspect of esthetic prosthetic treatment?

In esthetic prosthetic treatment, not only function but also esthetics are very important, and since patients have clear subjective criteria, it is crucial to achieve satisfactory results through extensive communication between the medical staff and the patient.
