Puresee Cataract Lens: Optimized Design for Korean (Asian) Eyes

Presbyopia and cataracts are natural aging phenomena,

much like getting gray hair as you age.

Just as a camera has a lens for zooming in and out,

our eyes have a crystalline lens that adjusts for viewing distant and near objects.

When this crystalline lens ages and its near vision function declines,

we typically say, ‘presbyopia has set in.’

As presbyopia progresses, the crystalline lens gradually becomes cloudy,

leading to visual impairment.

Many people visit ophthalmologists

due to presbyopia and cataracts.

Cataract surgery involves removing the existing cloudy crystalline lens

and implanting an artificial intraocular lens (IOL) in its place.

Patients choose this artificial IOL, or cataract lens,

based on its function and price.

Since there are so many different types of lenses,

many people find it difficult to make a choice.

Today, I’d like to introduce a popular cataract lens:

the ‘Puresee lens.’

The Puresee lens is a premium cataract IOL that addresses the shortcomings of the ‘Eyhance’ cataract lens.

(Both lenses are from ‘Johnson & Johnson,’ a global company.)

Puresee has improved near vision compared to the existing Eyhance lens.

With smartphones, kiosks, and navigation systems,

near vision has become essential for daily life,

making this function perfectly suitable for today’s needs.

Additionally, it includes a function to block harmful light,

reducing eye strain when viewing monitor screens

and optimizing for glare reduction.

By blocking violet light,

it reduces glare from car headlights and smartphone LED lights.

This function seems suitable for those who frequently use smartphones or drive. ^^

Furthermore, Puresee is designed as a refractive type, not a diffractive type,

which is commonly used in general multifocal lenses,

making its structure more resistant to glare.

However, while refractive lenses are effective for glare reduction,

they have the disadvantage of being weak for near vision.

To compensate for near vision, Puresee

widens the optical zone to 3mm, increasing spherical aberration,

resulting in significantly improved near vision compared to Eyhance.

In summary, Puresee offers the following advantages:

1. Improved near vision by increasing spherical aberration.

2. Blocks violet light to filter harmful rays & optimized for glare reduction with a refractive design.

3. Various focal functions.

4. Cost-effectiveness compared to multifocal lenses.
