Post-Surgery Care for Double Eyelid and Nose Surgery (Same-Day Cleansing, Suture Removal, Ointment Application)

If you are considering double eyelid surgery and rhinoplasty, the most important thing to consider first is to accurately understand your body type and the structure of your eyes and nose.

Then, consult with experienced medical staff to find the appropriate method to achieve your desired results.

The outcome of the surgery is not only influenced by the skill of the medical team but also by proper management and adherence to precautions during the recovery period.

Therefore, today we will answer the most frequently asked questions from patients regarding double eyelid surgery and nose surgery.

Can I have the sutures removed early from the incision or epicanthoplasty area after eye and nose surgery?

A: Generally, we recommend removal after 7 days post-surgery, but there may be differences depending on the area.

Removing them a day earlier or later usually does not cause problems at the surgical site.

However, if left for a longer period before removal, the surgical site may open up, and suture marks (scars) may remain. Therefore, it is best to remove them according to the schedule provided by the hospital.

How long should I apply eye ointment after suture removal from eye and nose surgery?

A: First, the eye ointment (Ocuflox eye ointment) provided after surgery is an antibiotic ointment that treats bacterial infections, and you should use it until the sutures are removed. After suture removal, you do not need to apply the eye ointment.

However, if a scar remains and requires scar management, you can get a separate scar ointment prescribed and apply it. Scar ointment should be applied starting the day after suture removal.

How many times do I need to visit the clinic after eye and nose surgery?

A: For eye surgery, your first visit will be at the one-week mark for suture removal. After that, you will visit once at the one-month mark and once between the three-month and six-month marks for follow-up checks. This means a total of three visits are recommended.

For nose surgery, cotton is inserted into the nose after surgery for hemostasis and support. This cotton is removed the day after surgery, so your first visit is the day after the procedure. Then, you will need a second visit at the one-week mark for suture removal. After that, similar to eye surgery, you will visit once between the one-month mark and the three-to-six-month mark for progress checks. Therefore, a total of four visits are recommended.

How long should I refrain from smoking and drinking after eye and nose surgery?

A: It is best to refrain from smoking and drinking alcohol for at least one month, as these are most harmful to the surgical wound.

Specifically, nicotine in tobacco products can cause inflammation at the surgical site, and this inflammation can lead to scarring, negatively affecting the final outcome.

Can I take my usual nutritional supplements after eye and nose surgery?

A: Nutritional supplements taken for health often contain ingredients that thin the blood to improve blood flow.

This can cause delayed bleeding, which is most frequent on days 1-2 after surgery. To prevent bleeding, we recommend refraining from taking nutritional supplements for at least 3 days.
