Post-Eye Surgery Precautions

Learn essential post-eye surgery precautions for a smooth recovery, including proper posture, diet, swelling management, wound care, hygiene, exercise, medication, and avoiding alcohol/smoking.

Post-Eye Surgery Precautions

Here are some precautions to take after eye surgery.

A recovery period is always necessary after eye surgery.

During this recovery period, there are important things you need to be aware of and careful about.

Please check them carefully now!

Post-Eye Surgery Precautions

Posture

For up to one week after surgery, it is best to keep your upper body elevated, maintaining your head higher than your heart.

This helps reduce swelling quickly. For one week after surgery, avoid lying on your side or stomach.

It is best to sleep with your face pointing towards the ceiling.

Diet

All regular meals are possible after surgery, but

it is best to avoid spicy and salty irritating foods.

Swelling

Swelling and puffiness will worsen for the first 48 hours after surgery,

then slowly subside over 2-4 weeks, with individual differences.

Cold compresses are recommended for up to 3 days after surgery, including the day of surgery,

and warm compresses are recommended thereafter.

Wound Care

It is best to avoid crying, rubbing your eyelids hard, or squeezing your eyes tightly.

Applying too much force to the eyes can cause bleeding, so caution is needed.

Stitch removal timing varies depending on the surgical method but is usually possible between days 2 and 10.

Apply a small amount of eye ointment to the stitch area with a cotton swab 3 times a day.

Washing Face, Showering, Makeup

Until the stitches are removed, it is best to wipe areas other than the surgical site with a wet towel.

Washing your face and applying makeup are possible from the day after stitch removal.

(When washing your face, be as careful as possible around the eyes. For lower eyelid fat repositioning or removal surgery only,

it is possible from 3 days after surgery.)

Makeup can be applied 2 weeks after surgery, and an eye-specific cleanser is recommended for removal.

Also, artificial eyelashes or semi-permanent tattoos are best done after 1 month post-surgery.

Contact lenses are prohibited for 2 weeks after surgery, and saunas for one month after surgery.

Exercise

Daily activities are fully possible after 1 week post-surgery, but strenuous exercise (gym, hiking, swimming, etc.)

is possible after 1 month post-surgery.

Medication

Take prescribed medication regularly at the designated times.

If symptoms such as diarrhea or hives occur after taking medication, you should contact the hospital.

While painkillers are provided, if you experience severe pain in the early morning, you may take about 1 Tylenol tablet.

However, aspirin or Vitamin E can cause bleeding, so avoid taking them for 1 week after surgery.

Alcohol, Smoking

Alcohol and smoking negatively affect bleeding, wound healing, and infection, so they are prohibited for 1 month after surgery.

Progress

Conjunctival edema, where the white part of the eye swells, may occur, but there is no vision impairment, so you don't need to worry too much.

Bruising, ocular hemorrhage, and conjunctival edema may persist for 2-3 weeks, and the final line and shape will stabilize 6 months after surgery.

If your eyes are sensitive to light, feel foreign, or are dry after surgery, you may use artificial tears.

Also, sensation around the eyes or forehead may be dull after surgery but will recover over several months.

These are the precautions to take after eye surgery.

It's good to check them carefully both before and after surgery, isn't it? :)
