[Gangnam Smile Eye Clinic] Vision Correction for Patients with Extreme Fear (Open Surgery Room Event!)

Hello, this is Gangnam Smile Eye Clinic.

Are there any of you who have been afraid of surgery due to extreme fear?

Today, we'd like to share the story of a patient who was so terrified they almost ran out of the operating room, but ultimately completed their SMILE surgery safely!

First, this patient was very anxious even before the surgery, starting from the examination.

Many anticipated that SMILE surgery might not be possible for them.

(Note: If a patient is very tense and strains their eyes during SMILE, the surgery might become impossible, or it might need to be switched to LASIK mid-procedure.)

The patient themselves was very fearful and hadn't considered surgery until after their military service.

After being discharged, they made a strong decision to undergo surgery and searched for an eye clinic that performed surgeries safely and effectively, which led them to our Gangnam Smile Eye Clinic.

After completing all preparations, the patient entered the operating room, but felt scared and eventually ran away during the waiting period.

Those who have worn contact lenses tend to have less aversion to something entering their eyes, but for glasses wearers who have no experience with lenses, having something in their eyes can be a very frightening experience.

The patient composed themselves further and, with the help of a counseling team leader who assisted with mind control, entered the operating room!

Inside the operating room, optometrists and nurses also helped the patient relax by giving them a doll to hold, and the patient bravely made it to the operating bed!

At Gangnam Smile Eye Clinic, we take song requests from patients before surgery!

This was the idea of our chief director, Dr. Yeom Dong-ju, and it began with the desire to provide some peace of mind to anxious patients.

In addition to song requests, another unique feature is the MBTI section on the medical questionnaire!

This is also the chief director's idea!

While experienced medical staff can usually gauge a patient's personality to some extent during consultations and examinations, it's not possible to fully understand a patient's disposition based solely on that.

Therefore, knowing their self-assessed MBTI can help in understanding the patient's personality and also assist with small talk to alleviate tension during surgery, right?

The patient, who successfully completed the surgery, came for an outpatient visit.

They look much more relaxed, don't they? Haha.

(The patient and director's 'tiki-taka' continues even during post-surgery consultations!)

Their vision also improved (naturally) at a very fast rate, haha.

The patient, who overcame much fear and bravely underwent surgery, is admirable, and the director, who successfully completed the surgery without giving up, is also admirable!

We are very grateful to the patient who was so satisfied with the surgery and agreed to an interview.
