So, when can you start using your phone after LASEK?

There’s a common concern that using a phone after surgery can hinder vision recovery,

and we receive many questions about this from patients considering surgery.

Today, we’ll organize and explore information regarding phone use after LASEK :)

At our clinic, we perform All-Laser LASEK and Today LASEK procedures.

General LASEK is a vision correction method that most people have heard of.

It involves gently removing the outermost epithelial cells of the cornea without creating a corneal flap,

and then using a laser to reshape the corneal stroma.

Here, the methods for removing the epithelium are:

1) Using a brush or medication to remove it

2) Using a laser to remove it

Compared to LASIK, it’s more stable and can be applied to patients with thin corneas,

offering a wider range of choices.

In particular, it’s advantageous for cases requiring reoperation as it preserves more corneal thickness.

However, the downsides include post-operative pain and the time required for complete vision recovery.

So, after a successful surgery,

when is it best to start using your phone?

As mentioned earlier, LASEK involves removing the outermost epithelial cells of the cornea,

so it takes time for these epithelial cells to recover.

While the recovery period can vary from person to person,

generally, a recovery period of about 2 to 5 days is required after surgery.

During the recovery period, it’s best to avoid using your phone as much as possible

to ensure complete epithelial regeneration.

This is because prolonged exposure to phone light can negatively affect vision recovery.

Many people spend their recovery period watching videos, as going out is difficult after surgery.

However, focusing on videos reduces your blinking rate,

leading to dry and stiff eyes, which increases fatigue.

For at least one week, your cornea will not be fully recovered,

so you must be careful not to make your eyes sensitive.

Please refrain from using smartphones and electronic devices until the protective lenses are removed.
