Blue LED More Effective Than Bleach for Clothing Stains?

Blue LED More Effective Than Bleach for Clothing Stains?

For those who enjoy wearing white clothes and white shirts, a common concern is
stains caused by sweat.
Most people would typically use bleach,
but according to one study, using high-intensity blue LED light proved to be much more effective.
A study conducted by Dr. Tomohiro Sugahara's team at Okayama University in Japan,
and reported by the UK daily newspaper Daily Mail and others citing this research, states that
when blue LED light was applied for 10 minutes, it was not only much more effective at reducing stains than bleach or UV treatment,
but it was also confirmed that UV light could actually worsen stains by creating new yellow compounds.

To delve a bit deeper,
the main causes of the yellowish stains seen on white clothes are
squalene and oleic acid, which are found in sweat and skin sebum.
When cotton fabric was treated with squalene and then subjected to bleach, UV light, and blue LED light respectively,
the blue LED light showed the most outstanding effect, and it was noted that stains were alleviated without damage even on delicate fabrics like silk and polyester.

Furthermore, while additional research, including safety verification, is needed,
this study raises the question of whether an eco-friendly washing method that reduces environmentally burdensome chemical bleaches
and can be applied to delicate fabrics might gain attention.
We will have to watch with anticipation.
