Analyzing Jang Won-young's Semi-Outlined Double Eyelids

Even during this past peak season, the most popular surgery at our clinic was double eyelid surgery, a representative cosmetic procedure.

Double eyelid lines can broadly be categorized into four types, and the most preferred line was the semi-outline, also known as ‘Jang Won-young double eyelids’.

So, today, I will be posting about semi-outline double eyelids, which create a glamorous eye look.

What is a semi-outline double eyelid?

It is an intermediate type between the in-outline and out-outline, where the double eyelid line at the inner corner of the eye is higher than an in-outline

and lower than an out-outline, allowing for both naturalness and glamour simultaneously.

What is double eyelid balance? A crucial point in double eyelid surgery: Double eyelid balance

A crucial aspect to consider in double eyelid surgery is the balance of the double eyelid.

This applies to all types of lines. When the eye is divided into three equal parts—the inner corner, the middle, and the outer corner—based on the pupil,

an ideal double eyelid balance is achieved when the front part of the double eyelid is not larger than the middle or outer line.

In the case of a semi-outline, the front line of the double eyelid is relatively high. If the front line of the double eyelid is excessively large,

it can appear like ‘sausage eyes’ and be aesthetically unpleasing. Therefore, it is best to proceed with surgery based on an accurate examination.

Furthermore, semi-outlines can be divided into two types: natural semi-outlines and glamorous semi-outlines.

These can be distinguished by the closeness of the double eyelid line to the epicanthal fold. A double eyelid line that is closer to the epicanthal fold

is a natural semi-outline, while a glamorous semi-outline is characterized by a starting point further away from the epicanthal fold.

In Jang Won-young's case, both her right and left double eyelid lines exhibit a blend of natural and glamorous semi-outlines.

The central height is relatively high, measuring 4.4mm and 4.6mm. The distance between her eyes is normal, ranging from 32mm to 35mm.

The starting point of her double eyelid is far from the epicanthal fold, and the height of her semi-outline double eyelid is approximately 5mm, categorizing it as glamorous.

The curve shape of her double eyelid is straight, with the posterior line being slightly higher, resulting in an ASHT BTI classification.

Real Patient Before & After Images (Jang Won-young Double Eyelid / Semi-Outline)

This patient had sleepy-looking eyes, heavy-lidded eyes, and monolids. The desired line was a glamorous semi-outline.

Unnecessary fat in the heavy eyelids was removed through fat excision. The sleepy-looking eyes were corrected to be clearer with ptosis correction, and the double eyelid line was set as a semi-outline with a high inner corner.

The epicanthal fold at the inner corner of the eye and the hidden line were simultaneously corrected with inner and upper epicanthoplasty, resulting in much more refreshed eyes.

This is a before-and-after case where double eyelid surgery with a semi-outline resulted in much clearer and more glamorous eyes.

Double eyelid surgery can bring significant changes even with a subtle difference of 0.1mm. Therefore, to avoid unsatisfactory results or side effects,

many aspects need to be carefully considered. In addition to the eye type examination mentioned earlier, which includes the distance between the eyes and the starting point of the double eyelid, various other factors such as individual physical structure, skin thickness, eyeball protrusion, eye length, and degree of eye opening should also be considered.
