Double Eyelid Revision Surgery: Correction Timing and Methods for Double Folds

We introduce a revision surgery case for a patient who developed double folds after double eyelid surgery at another clinic. Immediately after surgery, there should be no double folds due to adhesion issues; at one month, folds may appear due to scar tissue, and by ten months, the double folds had disappeared. When the line is uneven due to scarring or design issues, line correction revision surgery is typically performed after 6 months.

Double Eyelid Revision Surgery: Correction Timing and Methods for Double Folds

Timing of Double Eyelid Revision Surgery for Double Folds

The patient came to us after developing double folds following double eyelid surgery at another clinic.

She had undergone multiple surgeries at the same clinic without improvement, and arrived with stitches still in place.

The double folds disappeared immediately after surgery.

However, since the area is currently swollen, there is a tendency for fewer folds to form above the incision line.

For reference, if double folds are present immediately after surgery, there is a high possibility that the adhesion has not been released.

Therefore, there should be no double folds immediately after surgery. However, in cases where double folds appear right after surgery, the skin tissue above the incision line may be very thin and slightly fold, but such cases are very rare.

This is the appearance at one month. In some cases, scar tissue rises in the front area and creates folds. In such cases, there is a high possibility of improvement over time.

This is the appearance at 10 months. The double folds have completely disappeared.

However, the line is uneven due to scarring.

In cases of early correction, since the existing line must be used as is, line correction is typically performed at the 6-month mark.

New costs are usually incurred.

Therefore, line correction must be redone. There are several reasons why the line becomes uneven like this.

When scarring is severe

When the double eyelid design does not extend in the proper direction

These are usually the two main reasons. Since the double eyelid design already performed at another clinic differs from what I typically do (it's inevitable that work done at another clinic would be different), the plan is to redesign and perform the revision surgery.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why do double folds occur immediately after double eyelid surgery?

If double folds appear immediately after surgery, there is a high possibility that the adhesion has not been released. However, in cases where the skin tissue above the incision line is very thin, slight folding may occur, but this is very rare.

Do double folds disappear over time?

According to the case, at one month, scar tissue rises in the front area causing folds, but by 10 months, the double folds had completely disappeared. There is a possibility of improvement over time.

When is line correction revision surgery possible?

In cases of early correction, since the existing line must be used as is, line correction is typically performed at the 6-month mark after surgery. New costs are usually incurred.

What are the reasons for an uneven line after surgery?

The two main reasons for an uneven line are severe scarring and when the double eyelid design does not extend in the proper direction.

What should be considered when undergoing revision surgery after surgery at another clinic?

Since the double eyelid design already performed at another clinic may differ from typical methods, in such cases, the design is newly drawn up and revision surgery is performed.
