Today, I will discuss solutions for eyelid drooping that occurs with age.

Eyelid drooping that develops with age is one of the biggest concerns for middle-aged individuals. First, what discomforts do people experience due to eyelid drooping as they get older?

Many mention things like ‘my vision is uncomfortable’, ‘the outer corners of my eyes get irritated’, ‘I have unexplained headaches’, ‘I look tired’, and ‘I look depressed’.

Many middle-aged clients have a strong preconception that ‘eyelid drooping = double eyelid surgery’.

For the client in the photo, upper blepharoplasty (double eyelid surgery) would lead to unfavorable results.

If double eyelid surgery is performed, the excess skin is removed, causing the compensatory raised eyebrows to droop, and eyelid drooping recurs.

Furthermore, if all the loose skin is excised, the eyes can appear sharp or fierce. This is because the skin near the eyebrows is thick, while the skin near the eyelashes is thin. The more skin is excised, the greater the difference in skin thickness, resulting in a thick and harsh-looking double eyelid.

In such cases, although not perfect, a method called sub-brow excision (sub-brow lift) can produce very natural and good results.

The habit of raising the eyebrows to open the eyes has also disappeared, making it much easier to open the eyes, and forehead wrinkles have significantly improved. Since it is not a double eyelid surgery, the eye shape remains natural. Of course, the surgical scar is slightly visible, but after 2-3 months, it will be barely noticeable unless you look very closely.

Sub-brow excision (sub-brow lift) can be performed simultaneously with double eyelid surgery. In this case, both eyelid drooping is resolved, and a much more natural double eyelid can be created.

Since the skin is thick, creating a thick double eyelid can result in an awkward and fierce eye shape. Although there is skin laxity, removing the loose skin from the double eyelid line would inevitably lead to a bulky double eyelid due to the difference in skin thickness. However, if double eyelids are desired, sub-brow excision (sub-brow lift) combined with the buried suture method can achieve both skin laxity removal and double eyelid creation.
