Finding the Right Eyelid Line for You: A Guide by VIBE Plastic Surgery
Learn about the four types of double eyelid lines (In-line, In-out, Semi-out, Out-line) and surgical methods to find your perfect look at VIBE Plastic Surgery.

Hello.
This is VIBE Plastic Surgery.
Double eyelid surgery is the most popular procedure,
but because it often leads to revision surgeries,
you must choose carefully during your first operation.
Recently, the number of people visiting VIBE Plastic Surgery
for revision eye surgery consultations has been on the rise.
So today, VIBE Plastic Surgery will explain
what factors to check to avoid the need for revision surgery.

Finding the Double Eyelid Line That Suits You!
There are four main types of double eyelid lines:
In-line, In-out line, Semi-out line, and Out-line.
With so many options, you might feel overwhelmed
when deciding on your surgery.
While it is important to know what line you want,
it is equally vital to understand which line actually suits your eyes.
Let’s look at the characteristics of each line to see
which one might be the best fit for you.

In-line
This refers to a line where the starting point is very close to the inner corner of the eye,
and the crease gradually gets higher toward the outer corner.
It is the most natural-looking line and does not look overdone,
making it a preferred choice for men or those who want a subtle change.

In-out Line
This is a line that starts right at the inner corner of the eyelid
and continues smoothly to the outer tail of the eye.
This line is common among Caucasians and suits people
with slightly protruding eyes and thin eyelid skin.
However, caution is needed for those with thick eyelids or muscle,
as it can result in a ‘sausage’ look or appear unnatural.

Out-line
This refers to a thick double eyelid line that starts
above the inner corner of the eye.
It is the primary choice for those who prefer
a glamorous and bold eye shape.

Semi-out Line
This line sits between the In-out and Out-line styles.
It suits those who have almost no epicanthal fold (Mongolian fold),
allowing the inner line to remain visible.
However, since most Asians naturally have an epicanthal fold,
those who want a semi-out line often need to combine it
with epicanthoplasty or dual-canthoplasty.
As you can see, the double eyelid line is determined
by where the crease begins.
Therefore, you must choose the appropriate line by considering
various factors such as individual eye condition, skin thickness,
eyelid fat, and skin sagging.
So, What Are the Surgical Methods?
There are various surgical methods for double eyelids,
including the incisional method and the natural adhesion (non-incisional) method.
Since the method you want may differ from the method that fits your eyes,
you should consult with a board-certified plastic surgeon to make an informed choice.
Incisional Method
This method involves removing excess skin, muscle, and fat,
dissecting the area, and then creating the line.
It has the advantage of being almost permanent and unlikely to come undone.
Partial Incision
This uses a smaller incision than the full incisional method,
leaving less noticeable scarring.
It is performed when there is significant fat but minimal skin sagging.
Buried Stitch (Non-incisional) Method
This method involves tying the skin and the eye-opening muscle
continuously with a thread without making an incision.
The procedure is relatively simple, with minimal bruising and swelling,
leading to a fast recovery and natural results.
Natural Adhesion
This method utilizes the principle of skin and muscle adhering naturally.
Unlike the traditional buried stitch method, it induces natural adhesion
between the eye-opening muscles through microscopic holes.
This results in almost no scarring even when the eyes are closed.
It also offers relatively low swelling and a fast recovery time.
Which Surgical Method is Right for Me?
The incisional method is suitable for correcting sagging skin
that looks puffy due to excess fat in the upper eyelid.
The partial incision method is suitable for cases where there is a lot of fat
and flesh in the upper eyelid, making it difficult to remove fat via the buried stitch method.
The buried stitch method is effective for cases with thin eyelid skin and little fat.
So far, we have looked at the double eyelid lines that might suit you.
Because there are many factors to consider—such as eye shape, structure,
the amount of epicanthal fold, and the distance between the eyes—
consulting with a board-certified plastic surgeon is essential.
