Lump Removal When an Implant Is Present

A clinic shares its approach to lump removal in patients with implants, highlighting the added complexity of implant safety, adhesion assessment, and scar minimization.
Hello!
Today, a patient who came in for lump removal was kind enough to bring us some delicious donuts on her way out.

We see plenty of patients coming in for straightforward lump removal, but we also frequently receive referrals from other clinics for patients who have implants.
When an implant is involved, it's not as simple as just addressing the lump — we also need to assess the implant's position, the condition of the surrounding tissue, and whether any adhesions have formed, which makes the procedure considerably more complex.
Particularly when the lump is located close to the implant, or when inflammation has progressed alongside adhesion, there is a real risk of implant damage or distortion if removal is attempted too aggressively.
This is why less experienced practitioners tend to approach removal with great caution, and why many patients end up seeking out clinics with a more specialized surgical background.
Lump removal is not simply a matter of cutting something out — what matters most is thoroughly evaluating the current condition and proceeding in a way that keeps the implant as safe as possible throughout.
Scarring and potential changes in shape after removal must also be factored in, which is why a careful, measured approach is absolutely essential.
I'll admit that I found it challenging at first too, but having performed a large number of implant procedures and lump removals over the years, it's become something I handle with confidence. I also put a great deal of effort into keeping scarring to a minimum. ^^
And we will absolutely enjoy every last bite of those donuts!
