Essential Precautions After Eye and Nose Surgery!
Learn the essential post-operative care for eye and nose surgery, including medication, cold/warm compresses, and lifestyle tips for a smooth recovery.

Hello.
This is Vibe Plastic Surgery.

It is no exaggeration to say that the first impression one makes when meeting someone for the first time is determined by the eyes and nose.
Because of this, the number of eye and nose surgeries seems to be increasing more and more.
However, many people are often preoccupied with the surgery itself beforehand and focused on the results afterward, leading them to overlook important precautions.
So today, we will take a detailed look at the precautions to follow after undergoing eye and nose surgery.

Taking Medication
The prescribed medication includes antibiotics, anti-inflammatories, digestive aids, and ingredients that help reduce swelling.
You must properly take or apply the prescribed medications after eye and nose surgery so that the surgical site can heal well without inflammation or complications.

Cold Compresses and Warm Compresses?
After eye and nose surgery, cold compresses are helpful until the 3rd day, and you should switch to warm compresses after the 3rd day.

The purpose of applying cold compresses is to constrict blood vessels to prevent bleeding. Since the vessels constrict, it helps with initial hemostasis (stopping blood flow).
However, applying cold compresses more than 3 days after surgery can slow down wound healing by keeping the vessels constricted. Therefore, it is best to use them only for the first 3 days after surgery.

The reason for applying warm compresses is to dilate the blood vessels and improve blood flow, which allows swelling to subside faster.
However, if you use warm compresses from the very beginning, the vessels will remain dilated, which may cause minor bleeding, more facial swelling, and a slower recovery.
Using cold compresses for the first 3 days and then switching to warm compresses is the most ideal method.

Proper Nose Compressing
After nose surgery, the nostrils are usually blocked with packing. This can cause the eyes and face to swell.
Therefore, when applying cold compresses, do not place them directly on the nose. Instead, apply them around the eyes and cheeks to help blood circulation and prevent severe swelling.

When Can I Blow My Nose?
Blowing your nose hard increases blood pressure, which can cause capillaries to burst and lead to bleeding or re-adhesion issues. It is best to avoid blowing your nose forcefully for at least one week.

When Can I Wear Glasses?
For those who normally wear glasses, wearing them after surgery can put pressure on the nose. Generally, wearing glasses is prohibited for about 3 weeks to 1 month.
Also, you must be careful when wearing masks, which is common nowadays. You should shape the wire part of the mask carefully so that it does not press directly on the surgical site.

Why Sleep with Your Head Elevated?
Sleeping with your head elevated helps the swelling go down. We recommend using pillows to keep your head high while you sleep.

Is Pumpkin Effective for Swelling?
Pumpkin has a natural diuretic effect, which is effective for reducing swelling. Consuming pumpkin-related foods is highly recommended.

NO Smoking! NO Alcohol!
This is the most important precaution, regardless of whether it is before or after surgery.
Since smoking and alcohol delay wound healing, we recommend avoiding them for at least 2 weeks after surgery.
Managing your condition during the recovery period is just as important as the surgery itself. Please make sure to familiarize yourself with and follow these precautions after eye and nose surgery.
