Why Design is Crucial in Eye Surgery!
Learn why personalized design is the most critical step in eye surgery for natural results and how VIBE Plastic Surgery achieves the perfect balance.

Hello.
This is VIBE Plastic Surgery.
Because every individual has a different eye shape, eyelid muscle strength, and skin elasticity, it is essential to plan a design that suits you by considering the overall proportions and harmony of your face during eye surgery.

Today, we will take a closer look at why design is so important in eye surgery.

When you visit any plastic surgery clinic for a consultation, you will undergo various simulations to see if a specific crease line suits you and if it matches the look you want.
The reason for this is that this part is the most critical during an eye surgery consultation.
By trying out various lines such as in-fold, in-out fold, or out-fold during the consultation, you can find the specific line that you desire.

Since eye surgery proceeds after deciding on a line and creating a design accordingly, the surgical outcome follows the design.
You can think of design as such an essential process that there is no such thing as surgery without a design.

There are cases where the results may not match the design.
This is because the texture of our skin basically rotates in concentric circles. If this aspect is overlooked and the design is made incorrectly, the line may follow the natural grain of the skin rather than the intended design line.
This can result in the line becoming too high or the formation of multiple folds.

During an eye surgery consultation, tools called a ‘liner’ and a ‘caliper’ are primarily used for designing.

Liner
A liner consists of flexible wire. Since it would be painful if the tip were too sharp when touching the skin, the ends are processed to be slightly blunt.
There are two liners in total, and they are used to create and show the line directly to the patient.
If you want to check for bilateral symmetry, using them on each side allows you to preview the post-operative feel, making it a very useful tool.

Caliper
You can think of a caliper as a tool that acts as a ruler.
Once fixed, it maintains the exact angle to match the desired millimeter measurement, making it a very useful tool during the design process.
While the tools used for design may vary by clinic, VIBE Plastic Surgery uses liners and calipers to plan a customized design tailored to each individual.

When designing, the most basic step is to design while the patient is sitting up.
It is crucial to check the process of opening and closing the eyes. Since we always face people while standing, designing in a seated position is vital to clearly see how much the eyebrows sag and how much the skin covers the eye.

After the primary design while sitting, it must be checked once more while lying down.
This is because patients may be tense while sitting, and if they close their eyes tightly, the skin may appear to sag more due to the direction of gravity and force.
Therefore, we check again in a lying position where the patient is as relaxed as possible without frowning.
Thus, the final design should be decided after confirming that there is no significant difference between the sitting and lying positions.

Swelling can commonly occur during eye surgery. This is because, in most cases, a minimum amount of anesthesia (less than 1cc per eye) is used, but if the skin itself is very thin, the left and right sides may swell differently.
In such cases, even if the design and incision are identical, the two sides may look different during the procedure.
In these moments, it is most important not to panic and to stick to the original plan.
This is why you should consult with and be treated by a plastic surgery specialist with extensive clinical experience.
Surgery performed as an improvisation while ignoring the design due to lack of experience can lead to errors.

As with any process, planning is extremely important.
The same applies to eye surgery. It is crucial to establish a good plan and proceed with the surgery accordingly.
