Correcting a Low and Short Nose: Rhinoplasty Using Rib Cartilage and Silicone - Dr. Young-moon Yoo, VIBE Plastic Surgery
Discover a comprehensive rhinoplasty case study by Dr. Young-moon Yoo, focusing on correcting a short, upturned nose and bulbous tip using rib cartilage and silicone for a refined look.

✨ Hello. I am Dr. Young-moon Yoo, Director of VIBE Plastic Surgery 😊
Today, I would like to introduce a comprehensive rhinoplasty case of a female patient in her 20s who was concerned about her low, short nose and bulbous tip. We improved the bridge, tip, and alar width for a balanced transformation.
🔹 Primary Pre-operative Concerns
The nose appeared short and upturned, making the bridge look low and the center of the face appear flat.
A bulbous nose shape where the nostrils looked wide and flared.
The nasal tip was blunt, lacking three-dimensional definition and making the face look wider.
🔹 Surgical Method and Design Points
1. Nasal Bridge
To balance the face, a silicone implant was used to correct the bridge to a natural height.
We designed a sophisticated ‘straight-semi-curved’ (Jik-ban) line that is not excessive, ensuring the facial features look harmonious.
2. Nasal Tip
We performed nasal tip extension and created a support structure using rib cartilage.
In cases where septal cartilage alone cannot provide sufficient support, using rib cartilage allows for a stable and lasting nasal tip shape.
Through this, the short and upturned tip was naturally lowered, completing a refined and feminine tip line.
Through bulbous nose correction, the wide nostrils were slimmed down, and the round, blunt tip was refined so that the contour of the tip is clearly visible even from the front.

🔹 Post-operative Changes
The central line of the face became more distinct.
As the nasal tip was naturally lowered, the overall impression improved to a softer and more sophisticated look.
From the profile, the previously low bridge was appropriately raised, completing a natural straight-semi-curved line.
🔹 Summary of Surgical Points ✅
Correction Area | Materials Used | Goal of Correction |
Nasal Bridge | Silicone Implant | Mid-face dimension, natural straight-semi-curved line |
Nasal Tip | Rib Cartilage | Short & bulbous nose correction, reinforced tip support |
🔹 The Core of Rhinoplasty by Dr. Young-moon Yoo
Rhinoplasty is not simply a surgery to raise the bridge of the nose.
One must consider facial balance, skin thickness, and cartilage strength to create a ‘natural and long-lasting line’.
At VIBE Plastic Surgery,
We prioritize the harmony of the entire face over excessive height,
and perform customized rhinoplasty considering the safety and durability of materials.
🔹 Recommended for those who:
Have a low bridge and a flat-looking mid-face.
Have an upturned tip that makes the nose look short.
Have a bulbous nose where the nostrils are wide and the nose looks flared.
Want a natural and sophisticated straight-semi-curved line.
VIBE Plastic Surgery does its best for safe and balanced results, ranging from implant-free rhinoplasty to customized rhinoplasty using rib cartilage.
Consultation and surgery should be performed by a board-certified plastic surgeon!
