Big Double Eyelids, High Double Eyelids, High Fold (Part 2: Naturally Bigger)

Today, following Part 1, ‘The Beginning of Disaster’, about big double eyelids, high double eyelids, and high folds, I will discuss Part 2: how to naturally create bigger double eyelids.

Generally, ‘big double eyelids’ means that a lot of the double eyelid is visible when the eyes are open, not that the height of the double eyelid is high when the eyes are closed.

Big double eyelids ≠ High double eyelids

Most people with low double eyelids, like inner double eyelids, who wish to enlarge them, tend to think about increasing the double eyelid height. However, indiscriminately high double eyelids can look swollen like a sausage and simultaneously appear sleepy, which is not an aesthetically recommended method.

As mentioned in Part 1, high double eyelids have far more disadvantages than advantages in many respects. So, what methods can create big double eyelids without making them high?

1) Endoscopic Brow Lift

This surgery involves making 3-5 small incisions in the scalp, then using an endoscope to separate the forehead and eyebrows from the frontal bone as a single unit, lifting them entirely. You can get a rough idea of the effect by lifting your forehead with your hand. It is particularly effective for those with a short distance between their eyes and eyebrows.

By lifting your forehead with your fingers, you can roughly estimate the post-surgery appearance.

2) Sub-brow Excision / Sub-brow Lift

If skin is removed directly below the eyebrow, rather than along the double eyelid line, the skin covering the double eyelid disappears, allowing the double eyelid to appear larger. The double eyelid becomes bigger without needing to create a high fold. This surgery is suitable for cases where a large amount of skin needs to be excised or when significant changes to the eye shape are not desired.

If you lift the skin below the eyebrow with a wire by the amount to be excised, you can see that the double eyelid becomes larger.

3) Incisional Double Eyelid Surgery

Instead of creating a high double eyelid line, removing more skin above the double eyelid line can make the double eyelid appear larger. This surgical method is suitable when the distance between the eye and eyebrow is appropriate, there isn't a large amount of skin to be removed, the skin is not thick, and the upper eyelid is not puffy.

By lifting the eyelid, not the forehead, you can estimate the appearance after incisional double eyelid surgery.

Methods to create bigger double eyelids include:

1) Endoscopic Brow Lift

2) Sub-brow Excision / Sub-brow Lift

3) Incisional Double Eyelid Surgery

4) Increasing Double Eyelid Line Height

While there are various methods, I want to emphasize that there are alternatives to simply raising the line indiscriminately.

Today I would like to talk about how to make a big double fold of the eyelid without compromising the function of the upper eyelid. Patients who visit my clinic for bigger double folds usually ask to increase the double fold height, but that is just one of the options for bigger double folds. This is because the double fold height which the patient mentioned is the height that is exposed when the eye is opening, not the real height when the eye is closing.

1) Endoscopic brow (forehead) lift

As you see above in the 1st photo & video, a brow lift can expose more double fold without fold surgery. You can estimate the surgery result by lifting your forehead with your finger.

2) Sub-brow excision

The 2nd photo & video show the excision skin width. This surgery gets rid of remnant skin of the eyelid just below the eyebrow, so it is favorable to people who have skin drooping. You can estimate the surgery result with a wire pinch.

3) Open double fold surgery (not buried method)

The 3rd photo & video show the design and simulation of the surgery. It can remove slight remnant skin of the eyelid, and expose more double fold without fold height modification.

4) Increase actual fold height with various methods

Excessive fold height increase can make disaster, so this surgery must be considered after close consultation with your surgeon.

So, what I want to say is that there are various skills to expose your double fold bigger without actual fold height increase.
