Natural, Customized Nose Line Without Tip Drooping
Achieve a natural, customized nose line without tip drooping. Learn how to prevent and address nose tip drooping after rhinoplasty for a satisfying result.

Individuals plan and undergo nose surgery to improve their nasal complexes and achieve an ideal nose line. However, sometimes after some time, nasal deformation can occur, leading to unsatisfactory results.
When such unsatisfactory results or nasal problems arise, revision rhinoplasty is considered. The causes of these problems can be diverse, but one of the most frequent cases is nose tip drooping due to absorption after surgery.
Therefore, today, we at VAVA Plastic Surgery will inform you about how to achieve a satisfactory nose line without nose tip drooping.

How can I tell if my nose tip has drooped?

To determine if your nose tip has drooped, it's important to assess it after a sufficient recovery period, not immediately after nose surgery.
After nose surgery, cotton is placed inside the nose for hemostasis and compression, then removed after one day. At this time, the nostrils, which were expanded by the cotton, may appear smaller after the cotton is removed, making you think your nose tip has drooped.
However, this phenomenon is a natural occurrence as swelling subsides after nose surgery, so there is no need to worry.
To accurately determine nose tip drooping, the major swelling usually subsides within one month, and the residual swelling subsides over three months to a maximum of one year, allowing for the accurate assessment of the line. If you take a side profile photo of your nose with a neutral expression during this period and your nose tip appears to droop downwards in a hook shape, you can self-diagnose nose tip drooping.
What causes nose tip drooping?

There are various reasons why nose tip drooping occurs. Looking at the principle first, it is related to the pressure exerted by the skin after nose surgery and the supporting structure that withstands this pressure.
If an individual's skin is naturally elastic, the force to return to its original state will be weak. Conversely, if an individual's skin is not very elastic, the force to return to its original state will be strong.
Therefore, nose tip drooping can occur when the force exerted by the skin after nose surgery is greater than the supporting force of the internal nasal structure.
In addition to the skin, nose tip drooping can also occur if the alar cartilage of the internal nasal structure is weak or if the septum is weak, and it can also be influenced by daily habits.
What should I do if my nose tip droops?

If drooping occurs due to a weak internal nasal structure, nose tip drooping can be prevented through reinforcement and extension.
If the alar cartilage is weak, other cartilage can be grafted to reinforce it. Typically, ear cartilage, septal cartilage, or cartilage from other body parts can be harvested and grafted to the alar cartilage for reinforcement. If the septum is weak, it can be firmly fixed using an extension technique to lengthen the septum, or if necessary, donor ribs or autologous costal cartilage can be used to make it firm.
How can I prevent nose tip drooping?
Nose tip drooping can naturally occur depending on an individual's nasal structure and characteristics, but the simplest way to prevent it is through habits.
Typically, you will be advised on precautions after nose surgery, such as avoiding excessive laughter, sleeping face down, rubbing your nose, or stimulating it with your hands.
Laughter stimulates the nose due to the structural characteristics of the nasal muscles. When you laugh, the nasal muscles naturally pull sideways, and continuous use of these muscles can weaken the support structure, leading to nose tip drooping.
Additionally, sleeping face down or directly touching and stimulating the nose are actions that weaken the nasal structure after nose surgery, so it is best to avoid them as much as possible.

Achieving a satisfactory line without nose tip drooping is most important, but if nose tip drooping has already occurred and you are considering revision rhinoplasty, it is recommended to accurately understand your individual nasal characteristics and undergo surgery with an experienced medical team.
At VAVA Plastic Surgery, we provide precise examinations and meticulous consultations using the latest medical equipment and safety protocols, considering even the most delicate individual characteristics to deliver perfect surgical plans and results.
We will respond with dedication to ensure a complete recovery, not just the end of the surgery, so you can return to your daily life.
