Cheonggu Station Dental Clinic: Why You Shouldn't Delay Early Treatment for Cavities!! (Nerve Inflammation, Periapical Inflammation, Wisdom Tooth Extraction for Prosthetic Treatment)

Delaying cavity treatment can lead to nerve inflammation, periapical inflammation, and even necessitate wisdom tooth extraction for prosthetic work. Early detection and treatment are crucial to prevent complex procedures.

Cheonggu Station Dental Clinic: Why You Shouldn't Delay Early Treatment for Cavities!! (Nerve Inflammation, Periapical Inflammation, Wisdom Tooth Extraction for Prosthetic Treatment)

Hello.

I am Dr. Kim Tae-young, director of Bareunyoung Dental Clinic at Cheonggu Station.^^

Many families have all their members

visiting our clinic for dental care.

We are grateful to have met many families

where parents first visit and then introduce their children, or children visit first and then bring their parents, or families who come for a child's deciduous tooth extraction or fluoride application, and then the mother receives a regular check-up. They receive various treatments such as regular check-ups, treatments, and scaling.

We do our best to provide treatment, trusting that you believe in Bareunyoung Dental Clinic,

but honestly, it's better if I don't see you too often,

meaning you're free from pain^^;;

If you have a cavity initially

but feel no pain,

are afraid to go to the dentist,

or are too busy,

and delay your visit, the cavity will slowly progress,

and in some cases, root canal treatment or extraction may be necessary.

This is the second large molar on the lower left.

The first requires root canal treatment,

and the second requires wisdom tooth extraction before prosthetic treatment.

Even from the photos,

the cavity has already progressed to the nerve,

and the weakened tooth easily breaks and chips.

You can see that the gum has grown into that space.

Since there are cases where you don't feel pain or symptoms even with a cavity,

it's good to visit the dentist at least once or twice a year.

Among those reading this article

who haven't visited the dentist recently,

I recommend visiting a nearby dental clinic for a regular check-up^^

When a cavity has progressed this deep into the gum,

after thorough root canal treatment,

the gum is appropriately reshaped during the subsequent prosthetic treatment

to make it easier to fabricate and manage.

This is the same tooth as the one I previously posted about.

You may find the above post helpful

for information on root canal treatment.

In this case, the structure of the root canal was not extremely

complex,

but because the size of each root canal was very large,

it was challenging to measure the length, thickness, and size of the root canals

during the root canal treatment.

Therefore, we paid extra attention to disinfecting the inside of the root canal.

We went through a process of more clearly confirming several ambiguous root canals using X-rays, even with the measuring device.

If this tooth hadn't developed a cavity and hadn't required treatment,

the fully impacted wisdom tooth next to it wouldn't have needed extraction either.

However,

for the prosthetic treatment of this tooth,

the wisdom tooth was in an obstructive position,

and for long-term ease of management, the wisdom tooth was also extracted,

and the prosthetic treatment was completed.

After completing the treatment,

the patient came for a regular check-up after a long time.

The root canal treatment and prosthetic treatment were cleanly completed,

and the area where the wisdom tooth was extracted next to it shows no trace,

with the bone fully filled in.

Since it was deeply impacted,

the patient experienced some pain during the extraction,

but seeing it recovered like this,

I was grateful for their good cooperation with the treatment.

Now, the patient regularly visits with their family

for simple maintenance and check-ups like scaling.

The dentist's office is always a place that feels

somehow scary and reluctant to visit when you're in pain,

but while it's important to treat cavities correctly when they occur,

it's even more important to correct problems early through preventive treatment,

even if there are no issues regularly.

Thank you^^

Frequently Asked Questions

What happens if I delay cavity treatment?

If you delay cavity treatment, the cavity will slowly progress and can reach the nerve. In this case, root canal treatment or, in severe cases, even extraction may be necessary, so early treatment is important.

Can I have a cavity without feeling any pain?

Yes, it's common to have cavities without feeling pain or any specific symptoms. Therefore, even if you don't have pain, it's advisable to visit the dentist once or twice a year for a regular check-up.

When is root canal treatment necessary?

Root canal treatment is necessary when a cavity has progressed deeply into the nerve, weakening and breaking the tooth. The inside of the root canal is thoroughly disinfected and treated, followed by prosthetic treatment.

Is wisdom tooth extraction sometimes necessary before prosthetic treatment?

Yes, wisdom tooth extraction may be necessary if the wisdom tooth is in an obstructive position next to the tooth requiring prosthetic treatment, or for long-term ease of management. In the case presented in the article, the wisdom tooth was extracted before prosthetic treatment.

Why are regular dental check-ups important?

Regular dental check-ups are crucial for early detection and treatment of cavities and other oral problems, preventing more complex procedures. Even if you don't have any pain, preventive treatment can correct problems early on.
