Monolid Eyelid Surgery: Before and After Results for a Dull-Looking Eye Shape

Actress Kim Da-mi, ITZY’s Yeji, and actress Jeon Yeo-been share a common trait.

They all have monolid eyes. While monolids often bring to mind a plain or dull image,

these three individuals have monolids without droopy eyelids or excessive fat, which instead contributes to their unique and distinctive appearances.

In such cases, there’s no need to force a double eyelid through monolid surgery. However, if there’s a lot of fat in the eyes

or if droopy eyelids obstruct vision, considering monolid surgery can also be beneficial for eyesight.

Therefore, today we will explore double eyelid surgery methods for those with fatty eyelids and those with monolids.

1. Monolid Surgery for Eyes with Excessive Eyelid Fat

<Patient’s Concerns>

- Thick eyelids creating a stuffy impression

- Eyes that are short horizontally and vertically

<Patient’s Needs>

- Clear, refreshing eye shape that doesn’t look stuffy

- Removal of eyelid fat

- Customized double eyelid line

<Surgical Plan>

- Eyelid fat removal

- Semi-out line through incision (customized design)

- Lateral canthoplasty, Lower canthoplasty

This patient visited our clinic concerned about fat on their eyelids and short monolid eyes both horizontally and vertically.

They desired a clearer eye shape by undergoing double eyelid surgery and canthoplasty simultaneously. Through a customized design, eyelid fat was

removed, and then a semi-out line was designed using the incision method to proceed with the surgery.

Additionally, the blocked-looking outer corners of the eyes were improved with simultaneous lateral and lower canthoplasty,

resulting in a more open and refreshed eye shape.

2. Monolid Surgery for Horizontally Long Eyes

<Patient’s Concerns>

- Monolids creating a sleepy eye shape

- Eyes with a stuffy feeling

<Patient’s Needs>

- Dazzling in-out line

- Double eyelid line that suits their image

<Surgical Plan>

- Natural adhesion + Ptosis correction

- Medial canthoplasty + Epicanthoplasty

This patient had horizontally long eyes, so they weren’t particularly concerned about eye size,

but they visited our clinic hoping to achieve aesthetically pleasing double eyelids.

They desired a dazzling in-out line, so the surgery was performed with a customized design.

This patient also had little eyelid fat, so the double eyelid line was created using the natural adhesion method,

and additional medial canthoplasty and epicanthoplasty were performed to lift the inner corners of the eyes by 45 degrees, improving them to a more open eye shape.

As explained earlier, monolids can largely be divided into types with a lot of eyelid fat and types with little fat. It is crucial

to accurately identify the patient’s eye type to choose the appropriate surgical method.

Among monolid surgeries, the incision method is suitable for those who desire permanent double eyelids, have severe eyelid sagging, or have a lot of fat.

Non-incisional methods like natural adhesion are suitable for those who desire quick recovery and a simple surgery, or have little fat in their eyelids.

If you have monolid eyes and are considering double eyelid surgery but are unsure about the appropriate surgical method for you,

we recommend visiting our Baba Plastic Surgery clinic anytime for an examination and consultation.
