Recently, with growing interest in anti-aging and increased awareness of the eye and eyebrow continuum, there has been a significant rise in patients seeking endoscopic forehead lifts.
This is because structural sagging in the upper face can easily create a depressed or tired impression, beyond just showing age.
As a plastic surgeon, I have continuously researched to provide patients with safer and more refined endoscopic forehead lift surgeries. As a result, I am delighted to share some wonderful news.
This November, I have been officially invited to participate as a 'Master Tutor' at the PASM x IFAAS Master Class, a world-renowned conference held in Singapore.
This program is a cadaver hands-on master class co-hosted by PASM and IFAAS, an authoritative event where plastic surgeons from around the world gather to deeply exchange knowledge on actual human anatomy and sophisticated surgical techniques. Among these, I have been invited as a Faculty member for the Endoscopic Forehead-brow Lifting session, which is key to upper facial anti-aging, and will personally conduct lectures and cadaver demonstrations.
1. The Reason for My Participation
The reason for my invitation stems from the various presentations I have given at numerous domestic and international conferences over the past decade. Dr. Jonah, the academic director of the Singapore Association of Plastic Surgeons, had consistently paid close attention to my presentations and expressed a strong desire to observe my surgeries. He then personally arranged for my invitation, stating that my surgical methods were so precise and clean that he absolutely wanted to invite me to the endoscopic forehead lift master class and introduce me at PASM.
When I first received the invitation, I felt immense gratitude. It is a great personal honor to be able to share the surgical methods and experiences I have long contemplated and developed on an international platform. At the same time, to be honest, I also felt a considerable amount of pressure. Lecturing alongside world-renowned top surgeons like Dr. Zekeriya and Dr. Botti, who are also presenting at the same Master Class, fills me with both pride and nervousness. The efforts I have made to advance endoscopic forehead lifts have not been in vain, and being recognized globally brings a healthy sense of tension and responsibility.
However, the pressure is significant because I must deliver a perfect lecture to plastic surgeons from all over the world, and I need to lecture and explain surgical anatomy and techniques entirely in English. So, these days, I am putting even more effort into preparing for surgery and also preparing my presentation. Even topics that I am usually familiar with and frequently lecture on in Korea need to be organized for explanation in English. I am particularly careful with anatomical structures and surgical procedures, as precise terminology is crucial. Nevertheless, this preparation process itself is a great opportunity to systematize my surgeries again and clarify the points I consider important.
2. Key Presentation Content: Core Techniques of Endoscopic Forehead-brow Lift
The Endoscopic forehead-brow lift is not merely a surgery to lift the forehead or eyebrows. It is a procedure that requires understanding how the forehead, eyebrows, temporal region, and upper eyelids are interconnected and move together. Especially in Asian patients, eyebrow position, eyelid heaviness, compensatory action of forehead muscles, temporal volume, and outer eyelid sagging often differ from Caucasian patients. Therefore, even for the same surgery, the approach and criteria for judgment must vary depending on the patient.
This is precisely the point I want to emphasize in this master class. Beyond simply ‘which plane to dissect’ or ‘where to fixate,’ it's about how to interpret the unique relationship between the eyebrows and eyelids, tissue resistance, and overall facial balance for each patient, and how to adjust the surgical strategy accordingly.
3. Introduction of the Plane-Shifting Technique to Reduce Complications
In particular, at this conference, I plan to deeply introduce the concept of 'Plane-shifting Endoscopic Forehead-brow Lift,' which I have developed based on extensive clinical experience.
This method is based on the conventional subperiosteal dissection but involves switching the surgical dissection plane in certain necessary areas to reduce excessive tension or damage around the supraorbital nerve of the forehead, thereby controlling the movement of the forehead and eyebrows more naturally.
Applying this technique can significantly reduce sensory loss or nerve irritation symptoms commonly experienced by patients after endoscopic forehead lift surgery, while maintaining the most stable and natural eyebrow line and forehead shape in the long term.
I believe surgery is ultimately about how one understands and applies anatomy in real-world situations. The anatomy seen in textbooks and papers sometimes feels different from what is encountered in the actual operating room. Especially in the forehead and temporal regions, nerves, blood vessels, retaining ligaments, and fascial layers are intricately intertwined, and even small differences can significantly impact surgical outcomes and recovery.
In that sense, this cadaver hands-on master class is a very meaningful opportunity. It's not just a lecture; it allows us to jointly confirm actual anatomical structures, directly demonstrate surgical planes, and engage in questions and discussions with participants on-site. I, too, always learn anew in the process of teaching someone. If my experiences and considerations accumulated through surgery can be of even a little help to younger surgeons, that alone would be a great reward.

In addition to guiding the cadaver master class during this schedule, I will also be giving three more presentations at the main Singapore Plastic Surgery Conference:

Furthermore, this conference holds great personal significance for me. I am very much looking forward to sharing the perspectives and techniques of aesthetic plastic surgery developed in Korea on an international stage, and to exchanging experiences with doctors from diverse backgrounds. Aesthetic plastic surgery continues to evolve and develop based on each country's facial shapes, aesthetic standards, patient expectations, and tissue characteristics. Therefore, I believe that exchange at international meetings is an important process that goes beyond simple knowledge transfer, broadening each other's perspectives.
During this Singapore trip, I aim to engage in deeper discussions not only on endoscopic brow lifts but also on eyebrow and eyelid balance, upper face rejuvenation, and tailored SMAS Facelift approaches in Asian patients. I hope that my experience will be conveyed not as the single correct answer, but as one perspective that can contribute to achieving better results.
