This was a child in the upper elementary grades.

The very last molar had erupted,

Since cavity treatment could not proceed with the gum covering the tooth,

I excised the gum at that end part and performed surrounding contouring.

Due to the excellent healing power of the gums,

in this case, the gum that regrew in the middle

required a second re-contouring procedure.

In the photo taken at the 6-month check-up after treatment completion, a strong gum line

was observed to be well-positioned without covering the tooth again.

This patient was an adult,

but for unknown reasons, the permanent tooth was still trapped in the tooth germ,

and root development was not progressing properly.

To induce eruption, the first step was to create a path in the gum

and remove the thin layer of tissue remaining on the tooth crown,

allowing the tooth to descend without resistance.

If the tooth germ was not affected in childhood, this treatment alone would allow the permanent tooth to

erupt normally.

Three months passed after creating the path.

During that time, other problematic teeth were being treated.

On the X-ray, the tooth can be seen erupting.

The root also appears to have grown a little.

This tooth will need to be observed as the root grows and it erupts,

without applying strong fixation.

When the gum has grown over a tooth fractured due to decay

Finally, although this is not a case that occurs in children,

it is a phenomenon often seen in teeth that have had decay for a long time and are fractured.

The decay in that area was severe, and the gum had grown over the fractured part of the tooth,

making it impossible to secure the tooth crown.

Gums that are temporarily hypertrophied due to surrounding plaque

will return to their normal height after scaling and recovery.

However, if the gum has proliferated, after cavity treatment,

the proliferated part of the gum must be excised

to achieve a proper fit during crown treatment.
